In another tactical move, Sony Entertainment Television Asia has bagged one more big film title to be shown exclusively on its channel.
Mangal Pandey-The Rising, released two weeks ago in cinemas around the world, will be receiving its television premiere soon. The deal between the Kaleidoscope Entertainment banner and the broadcaster means the former will fetch a whopping RS 7.000 crore for the movie sale to Sony. The music rights are sold to Sony Music on commission basis.
Notably, Managal Pandey-The Rising, which stars Aamir Khan, Rani Mukherjee and Amisha Patel is being distributed by Yashraj films. The close bond between Yashraj and Sony has already been widely recognised in the past, with Sony sole broadcasters of the whole of the Yashraj movie library. The channel in the past has already shown Dhoom, Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai, Chandni, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai amongst many others. On the occasion of Diwali, expect to see the satellite premiere of Veer Zaara.
Moreover, Sony is in the process of sprucing up its movie library to revamp its movies and concerts channel SET Max. The competition between cinema channels in India is already heating up with STAR Gold grabbing some of this year’s big hits and ZEE Cinema occupying the top spot with its line-up of classic Amitabh Bachchan movies.
