Sonu Nigam to get police protection following threats

Singer Sonu Nigam is the latest in line of celebrities receiving threatening calls from the underworld. An official report has been drawn up by the police about the calls and it has been circulated to the relevant offices.

Nigam, who is currently out of town, has told the police that he has received calls from Chhota Shakeel who is a well-known member of the Dawood Ibrahim gang. The calls were threatening Nigam to sign up to a new contract regarding a world tour which he has already done with an event management company.

A crime branch officer told TOI, “The gangster recommended a person’s name and wanted Niigaam to organize the (world tour) concerts through him. We asked Niigaam to provide all the details and register an FIR. He is busy and we expect him to visit us soon”.

Another officer went on to say, “Nigam has already signed the agreement and legally, he can’t cancel it. But Shakeel and Altaf are pressuring him to sign a new one”. It seems Nigam was threatened regarding his personal life but refused to take the threats seriously.
