Sonam Kapoor to play lead in ‘The Princess Diaries’ remake

Despite her recent release having mixed reviews, global production house Disney who produced ‘Khoobsurat’ (2014) have apparently decided to get Sonam Kapoor, to play the lead in a remake of the Anne Hathaway flick ‘The Princess Diaries’ (2001).

According to Hindustan Times, Disney were deciding between the Hathaway starer and ‘Freaky Friday’ (2003). A source close to the actress was reported explaining, “The production house, which holds the rights to the film, was in two minds about the project it should go ahead with, ‘Freaky Friday’ (2003) or ‘The Princess Diaries’. They chose the latter. The initial round of meetings has taken place between the two parties. They�۪ll be meeting again in the coming week to finalise the details.”

Whatever the critics may say about her acting skills, the production house seem to be quite taken by Kapoor’s talent, as the source went onto add, “This will be the second time that Sonam and the production house will be working together. In fact, the Los Angeles, USA, officials have seen her latest film and liked her performance.”

‘Khoobsurat’ (2014) also marks the debut of Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, and he has made quite an impression with the Indian audiences and critics alike.
