Sonam Kapoor: “People who criticise me are ignorant”

Sonam Kapoor always remains in headlines either for her films or her controversial acts and remarks. Once again the actress, who is enjoying the success of her recent release ‘Khoobsurat’ (2014), has delivered another controversial comment that may annoy her fans.

Recently, while celebrating the success of ‘Khoobsurat’, where she has been paired opposite Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, she was questioned about her outspoken behaviour to which she told DNA, “Yes, I’m a moohfat (Outspoken). Everybody knows I have a foot-in-mouth syndrome… like all five toes.”

Answering to the question what she feels when people condemn her for her candid remarks, Kapoor said, “It’s not jealousy… people who criticise me are ignorant. People in India are ignorant and that makes us backward.”

The actress also feels that people shouldn’t judge her as she doesn’t find them qualified enough to judge her all the time. “Don’t judge anything or anybody when you don’t see the full picture. But then I understand, it’s because they don’t know better. You know when you conform to a certain society, and you are conditioned to be a certain way, you don’t know things. It’s like telling a young girl who’s never been out of the house that the world is scary. She has not seen the world, so she will automatically think that the world is that way [when it is not]. So if you keep telling somebody that you can’t speak your mind, you can’t do this, you can’t do that… that’s what girls start to think is right,”

“When you’re conditioned that way, it’s very difficult to break it. I don’t think they are wrong, I just feel sorry for them. I can’t judge them,” says Kapoor.

However, her statement may come as a major disappointment for a huge community of Bollywood fans as she has termed them ignorant and ineligible to judge her acting talent.
