Sonam Kapoor clarifies what being a feminist actually means

Sonam Kapoor PRDP

In the recent past, actresses such as Katrina Kaif, Parineeti Chopra and Alia Bhatt have been criticised for their take on feminism. Each of the three showed hesitance in labelling themselves as feminists, although they claimed to believe in equality of the sexes. Actress Sonam Kapoor, who unabashedly believes herself and even her father to be feminists, has gone on record to speak about what feminism actually is.

PTI quote Kapoor as having said, at a recent event, “I am a complete feminist. Being a feminist is to understand that it’s not about boys and girls, it’s about being who you are, not being afraid, and standing up for what you believe is right.”

She further added, “My father (Anil Kapoor) is the best person I know because he encourages me and my sister (Rhea). He treats me as a strong capable individual and for that he is a feminist. He believes that these girls are more than capable of doing a lot of things which a lot of people are not.”

Kapoor also spoke about the much-discussed pay gap between actors and actresses in B-town. According to the actress, her fellow actresses should carefully decide which filmmakers to work with and not work with those who do not pay them fairly.

On the movie front, Kapoor will next be seen opposite Salman Khan in Sooraj Barjatya’s Diwali release, ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’.
