Sonakshi Sinha to star in ‘Chameli Ki Shaadi’ remake?

Sonakshi Sinha

Over the past decade, remaking older movies has become a common concept in Bollywood. The latest remake on the cards is of Anil Kapoor and Amrita Singh’s ‘Chameli Ki Shaadi’ (1986), for which Sonakshi Sinha has been approached to play the latter’s role.

“The story of the film is relevant even in today’s time. Our society still does not approve of inter-caste alliances; many relationships are throttled due to caste and class distinction. The remake will focus on love in the face of such challenges,” a source revealed to Mid Day.

The source added, “Chameli’s personality has a desi edge and only Sonakshi can play the character to perfection. We are keen to have her on board.”

The remake will be directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru of ‘Lucky: No Time For Love’ (2005) fame. The duo have earlierdirected SonakshiSinha in a couple of songs for her debut film, ‘Dabangg’ (2010).

While Sapru confirmed that he and Rao have approached Sinha for the remake, it is not yet know which actor is being considered for the role essayed by Anil Kapoor in the original. An officialannouncement is expected in the next few days.
