SLB opens up about debut Marathi film ‘Laal Ishq’
Known for spending millions on picturesque sets and creating larger than life films, director-producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali says he has always wanted to do a Marathi film and that’s why he made ‘Laal Ishq’.
Indian Express reporting the ‘Bajirao Mastaani'(2015) visionary saying, “I۪ve always been extremely close to all things Maharashtrian, be it the food, music or cinema. I grew up listening to the Mangeshkar family۪s Marathi songs. And I speak fluent Marathi. It was always my wish to make a Marathi film.”
The filmmaker was approached by director Swapna Waghmare Joshi with a story and decided it was the perfect time to get involved with the resurgence of Marathi cinema.
The film’s title ‘Laal Ishq’ is actually a popular song from the soundtrack of another Bhansali production ‘Goliyon Ki Raas Leela, Ram Leela'(2013), which the director though suited the unnamed project perfectly.ʉI had registered Laal Ishq۪ as a title for my future films. But when I heard the story of Swapna۪s film, I completely thought Laal Ishq۪ to be the right title. I happily gave it to Swapna (director), he said.
Apart from the title, Bhansali has chosen to refrain from any other involvement with this next production.
