Sky planning to overhaul its EPG line-up

Sky is planning overhaul its EPG to restructure and simplify its channel line-up.

Broadcast magazine reports that the platform has commenced an eight-week consultation period with broadcasters about the changes, which are due to take place in the first quarter of 2018. As a part of the proposals, Sky will move up the HD channels, replacing their SD services. The SD channels will then move to a dedicated part of the EPG – in the 800 range.

Sky is also planning to move the timeshift +1 channels into a new number range and re-group them. Children channels are also expected to move from the current 600 range to 250+

Sky’s director of channels and operations Jon Simkin told the publication, “We asked viewers how easy they find our linear EPG to use. Overall the feedback was positive, but they raised a few areas where they thought we could make their viewing experience better.”

The changes will also affect South Asian and other non-English channels that sit in the 700+ range in the “International” category.
