Sky News journalist Amrit Singh Mann wins ‘Higher Apprentice of the Year’ award

Sky News journalist Amrit Singh Mann has been named ‘Higher Apprentice of the Year’ at the London National Apprenticeship and Skills Awards 2024.

The event, organised by the Department for Education, aims to recognise outstanding apprentices, T Level students, skills champions, and apprenticeship employers. Mann, from Slough, received the award in a category sponsored by the British Army.

In response to the award, Mann expressed his gratitude, telling BizAsia: “Honoured to win ‘Higher Apprentice of the Year’ at the London National Apprenticeship and Skills Awards.

“Thank you to the Department for Education for the recognition and their ongoing commitment towards apprenticeships. I think they’re the future and a great way to kickstart certain careers.”

Earlier this year, Mann also won ‘Apprentice of the Year’ at the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) Awards. At 18, Mann began his career with Sky News in 2021 after completing his A-levels. Prior to his journalism role, he served in the UK Youth Parliament, representing his constituency of Slough for five years.

Mann has demonstrated a strong interest in highlighting issues affecting under-served communities. In 2023, he was honored at the British Sikh Awards, receiving the Media, Arts, and Cultural Awareness Award.
