Sky News’ Jannat Jalil to host Asian Media Awards

Sky News presenter Jannat Jalil says she is privileged to be hosting the 2015 Asian Media Awards ceremony.

Jannat who began her TV career at BBC World News and the BBC News Channel joined Sky News in 2011. This year�۪s ceremony will take place at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate on Thursday 29th October.

Jannat said, ���It is a privilege to host the third Asian Media Awards, valuing and showcasing the wealth of talent and creativity in our communities. The immense contributions of British Asians to public life, civil society and business are increasingly visible. I hope the awards will encourage more young people to make their voices heard and to bring the vibrancy and vigour of our cultural perspective to the mainstream media.�۝

After graduating from Warwick University with a degree in English literature, she joined the BBC as a news trainee in 1994, becoming a producer and then an editor at the World Service.

Jannat has anchored many of the major breaking news stories in the past year. In her career she has reported from across the world on a range of stories in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Kabul, Washington and Jerusalem.

Jannat supports the work of the international medical charity, MSF and is passionate about the arts, especially theatre. This year�۪s Asian Media Awards returns to the Hilton Manchester Deansgate on Thursday 29th October.

Previous recipients of an Asian Media Award include Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Waris Hussein, Nina Wadia and Anita Anand.
