Faisal Islam has been appointed the new Political Editor and full time presenter at Sky News, replacing Adam Boulton after 25 years.

He will move from Channel 4 later this year, where he is Economics Editor. At Sky News, Faisal will be handling the channel’s political coverage and deliver news and analysis reports from Westminster. His first assignment will be providing coverage of the Scottish Referendum in September, followed by the General Elections next year.

Faisal said, I۪m honoured to be joining Sky at an extraordinary time in British politics. This is a great opportunity journalistically and technologically and I am delighted I will be part of a team with such a strong reputation for breaking news and innovation.

I۪ve had a fantastic decade at Channel 4 News and I will miss all my talented colleagues and the world of economics. The opportunity at Sky to help transform political broadcasting is an exciting challenge that I could not resist.۝

John Ryley, Head of Sky News, added, The Political Editor is one of the most important and demanding roles at Sky News. We have a long history of challenging the way politics is reported in the UK and I know Faisal is keen to continue this; I am confident he will rise to the challenge. He is an impressive journalist and will make a very strong addition to our first class political team in Westminster.۝

Faisal started his career as Economics Correspondent at The Observer. He was awarded the Wincott Award for Young Financial Journalist of the Year.
