The popular Asian reality drama ‘Desi Rascals’ has been axed by Sky, BizAsia can confirm.

The show, which initially ran on Sky Living then moved to Sky1, did average in the ratings. Makers were hoping by moving the show to flagship service Sky1 with season two, would see ratings improve. However, numbers remained similar despite the temporary new home. The show averaged around 110,000 viewers, with some episodes drawing in just 70,000 viewers.

‘Desi Rascals’ the brainchild of Gurinder Chadha, was launched with much fanfare earlier this year. When it was broadcast on Sky Living, it started off as a bi-weekly then be cut to down a weekly after its move to Sky1.

The future of ‘Desi Rascals’ was uncertain after season two came to an end in September. Unlike first time around, the announcement of season two came immediately after the end of season one. However, things were much more quieter after the end of season two. At the time, BizAsia approached Sky to comment on whether there will be a third outing of the show, it said “no information was available on this”.

Today, the official ‘Desi Rascals’ Twitter confirmed the news that it will not be returning. It said, “We۪re sorry to say that #DesiRascals will not be returning for a new series. We shared so many memorable moments…”

It is not yet known if any other broadcaster will pick up the show.
