Singer Jonita Gandhi in line to make her acting debut

Jonita Gandhi, who rose to fame with the title track of ‘Chennai Express’ (2013) and worked with AR Rahman in ‘Highway’ (2014), is now all set for her acting debut in an Indo-Canadian film.

The ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ (2016) singer, who grew and studied in Canada, has been singing since she was 9. Starting her career as a YouTube artist, she made her debut in Bollywood playback singing with ‘Chennai Express’ and her breakthrough came when she worked with AR Rahman on two songs of ‘Highway.’ The celebrated singer is now all set for her acting debut, reports Hindustan Times.

The director of this Indo-Canadian film, Siddharth Achara approached her to act in this film. Gandhi will start shooting for the film in July in Canada. The film is about Gandhi’s character who gains fame and fortune with the help of a digital platform. The film’s narrative mirrors Gandhi’s life as a YouTube sensation, her rise to fame on the digital platform and her massive fan following especially in India and Canada.

The film is currently untitled and will also mark as Achara’s debut feature project which has been written by him too. Confirming the news, Gandhi said in a press statement, “I was approached for the film while I was touring, but there had been a lot of discussion since then because I wasn’t sure if I wanted to deviate my attention from singing. The plot and subject matter was really relatable for me, so it seemed like something I could give a shot. We are discussing exact dates and will begin shooting in Canada soon.”

After last year being declared the Best Female Vocalist at the Mirchi Music Awards, Gandhi’s stock is only going in one direction – up.
