Shahid Kapoor has proved his versatility in a number of roles, such as Vishal Bhardwaj’s ‘Kaminey’ (2009) and Abhishek Chaubey’s ‘Udta Punjab’ (2016). He hasn’t shied away from diverse characters, and is expected to play a lawyer in Shree Narayan Singh’s ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’.

It now seems that Shraddha Kapoor will be paired opposite him, despite earlier reports suggesting it would be Katrina Kaif. If true, this would be Shahid and Shraddha’s second outing together after ‘Haider’ (2014).

A source told Mid-Day, “Negotiations with Shraddha are on. She is yet to give her nod. But, she should be able to work on it.”

The film’s focus has also changed from a legal based drama, where Shahid’s character would have been seen fighting corruption in the electricity board. It will now apparently be a lighter take on the subject, with a more of a comedy twist.

Singh had previously said, “The subject of the film is very relevant to our times. Diwali makes it just the right occasion for us to shed light on a subject that needs to be discussed. We look forward to making a film that is both commercially entertaining and encourages a social conversation.”

Singh last directed Akshay Kumar’s successful, ‘Toilet-Ek Prem Katha’ (2017).
