Shoojit Sircar to remake ‘Sonar Kella’

Shoojit Sircar, a self-confessed Satyajit Ray fan, is hoping to remake Ray’s ‘Sonar Kella’ (1971) in the future. The original Bengali film centres around a detective by the name of Feluda.

Sircar told Mid Day, “I have wanted to make ‘Sonar Kella’ in Hindi. I am trying to acquire the rights to the movie. But, I am still not 100 per cent confident if I can make Feluda appeal to a national level audience, but I am certainly toying with the idea. Feluda has all the trappings of a franchise formula and it might just work, if made well.”

However, the director is also very clear that he will not make any official announcement until he has all the necessary details in place. In fact, he may work on other projects before going on floors with the said remake.
