Shekhar Kapur dismisses rumours to ‘Mr India’ sequel

There has been much speculation surrounding a sequel to Shekhar Kapur’s cult classic ‘Mr India’ (1987), which starred Anil Kapoor and the late Sridevi.

Reported by The Asian Age, when Kapur was asked the question if he and Anil Kapoor were looking to bring the magic of the invisible hero back on the big screens, the director simply replied “False alarm!”.

Further adding, “I don’t know what is happening with that project or what Boney Kapoor’s is planning. I was never going to direct the sequel and now with Sridevi gone, the question doesn’t arise.”

A source close to Boney Kapoor shared, a sequel is not possible, “There will never be another Mr. India. Sridevi is gone and it is impossible to imagine Mr. India without Sridevi. Even if Anil Kapoor was agreeable, Boney Kapoor, who was the producer of Mr. India, would never dream of doing a sequel without his late wife.”

Though another source thinks otherwise, “But it is not Mr. India 2. Anil and Shekhar have been planning a film together for the longest time. They are now looking at doing a web series together.”
