Shashank Khaitan unfazed by ‘Dhadak’-‘Sairat’ comparison

‘Dhadak’ (2018) director Shashank Khaitan doesn’t believe comparisons with ‘Sairat’ (2016) will hurt the success of his adaptation of the story.

When asked if he is concerned about the buzz around ‘Sairat’ overshadowing ‘Dhadak’, Khaitan told Box Office India, “I don’t think so. I believe that if I have made a good film, people will appreciate it. Of course, they will compare it but if we have made a good film, people will soon get over it and appreciate both films for what they are. I don’t think the comparison will affect it. If I make a bad film it will not be appreciated, but if it is a good film people will appreciate it for sure.”

Speaking about ‘Sairat’, he said, “The moment I saw the film, the story inspired me. Also, the way the film had been made… it was kind of like I just wanted to express myself through this film. Sometimes, you hear someone’s life story and you just want to make a movie on it. When I watched this film, I felt like I wanted to make this film in a different way, I wanted to make this film with the the same value system, while telling my story. It has been my best journey. I can’t pinpoint what exactly it was about ‘Sairat’ but let’s say it was the overall experience making such a lovely movie.”

‘Dhadak’, starring Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter, released on 20th July and is still going strong at the box office.
