Shaney Burney leaves ZEE UK

In what has come as a surprise in the industry, Shaney Burney has left her position as Head of Operations at ZEE UK, after nearly 20 years at the network.

Burney who started off with TV Asia in 1992 before the channel was bought out by ZEE in 1994, was part of the channel’s programming team. She also fronted the broadcaster’s viewers relation show ‘TVA & U’ and ‘ZEE & U’. Burney then decided to opt out of presenting to just concentrate on her role as Programming Controller for the UK/Europe feeds.

During her tenure at ZEE, she has looked after ZEE TV, ZEE Cinema, Zing (formerly ZEE Music), ZEE Punjabi and ZEE Cafe schedules. She has also had responsibility of local programming, which recently has been handled by Archana Kanade – who is the channel head of Zing.

Kanade and Amey Bapat, both who have worked closely with Burney over the past few years are expected to temporarily oversee programming of all channels until an official replacement has been found.

Burney was the longest serving staff member at ZEE UK. Recently, the likes of Sangraam Marathe and Govind Shahi – who were also credible names associated with the UK brand had parted ways.

The decision was made last month by the recently appointed Territory Head, Virad Kaul.

The other change that has been made in the last couple of weeks is of Parul Goel becoming the network’s new Deputy Territory Head.

The broadcaster has not announced these changes and neither has it commented on it.
