‘Udta Punjab’ emerged as the biggest opener in Shahid Kapoor’s career and the actor has expressed gratitude towards all those who have supported the film despite its hit by the Censor Board and the leak that appeared online days before the film released.

At the success bash for the film, the actor is quoted by Pinkvilla as saying, “We are genuinely upset about the leak. We are thankful for the massive support we got from media and people. Even though the leak happened, it is the biggest opening in my career. However, I feel if the film wasn’t leaked, it could have earned 20 to 25 per cent more”.

He also spoke about losing his way since 2009’s ‘Kaminey’, “After ‘Kaminey’, I think I lost the track. So after ‘Haider’, I did not want to repeat the same mistake. With due respect to the kind of support and appreciation I received for ‘Haider’, I wanted to do better roles. I’m happy I didn’t have to wait much and got a chance to perform in ‘Udta Punjab'”.

The actor also expressed that he feels the audiences yearn for something different but that filmmakers often are too scared to experiment.

‘Udta Punjab’ also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt and Diljit Dosanjh. The Abhishek Chaubey directorial released on 17th June and continues to do well at the box office.
