Shahid Kapoor chooses “substance” over “drug” for ‘Udta Punjab’

Shahid Kapoor - Chitta Ve - Udta Punjab

Shahid Kapoor’s avatar in the Abhishek Chaubey’s ‘Udta Punjab’ has been lauded since the first look was released. The actor is excited about the film which releases this month and chooses to use the word “substance” instead of “drug” when describing the story.

He said to Filmfare, “It۪s about four characters and their struggle with themselves and their journey in life. These four people could exist anywhere in the world not just Punjab. For Haider, Kashmir was the backdrop. Similarly, for Udta Punjab, Punjab is the backdrop. But the emotions that these four characters go through are universal as they indulge in substance abuse”.

He added, “I۪m using the word substance۪ and not drugs۪ because there۪s a difference. What۪s a drug and what is not a drug is up for discussion. But when you say substance abuse it talks about being dependent on an external consumable product”.

The film also stars Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh and will release on 17th June.
