Punjab Boxing legend, Kaur Singh who is undergoing medical help for his cardiac problem, has received a generous helping hand from none other than Shah Rukh Khan.
Reported on the Bombay Times, Khan had read about the struggle Singh was facing in pay his medical bills, and immediately offered to provide financial support of Rs 5 Lakh. “Sportspersons bring pride to a country and it is our duty to look after them as a society. After reading about Kaur Singh, we as a sporting unit, felt the need to stand by our fellow sportsman and urge everyone else to do the same in their own way. We wish Kaur Singh a speedy recovery and a healthy life.”
The money was transferred from Khan’s cricket team Kolkata Knight Riders, to which Khan added that cricket wasn’t the only sport that interested him. “We, at Knight Riders, are extremely passionate about sports, which is not necessarily limited to cricket.”
Also showing their support was the Boxing Federation of India (BFI), who also gave Rs 1 Lakh to Singh’s case. Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has also promised to give Rs 2 Lakh to help. Singh has been overwhelmed by the generosity shown and said, “After receiving such huge support from all over the country, I feel as if I am reliving the glory of the past. I thank everyone who came out and extended help.”
Due to the cardiac problems Singh is facing, it has meant his medical bills amount to Rs 8000 a month. Only on Tuesday was Singh discharged from a private hospital in Mohali.
