Shabana Azmi regrets no friendship with Smita Patil

Shabana Azmi and the late Smita Patil had worked together on several occasions but Azmi recently admitted that she could never be friends with her. She regrets that they both could never strike a friendship but holds Patil’s family and son Prateik close to her.

In an open letter, as according to Absolute India, Azmi wrote, “Alas, we could never be friends. The rivalry between us, some of it manufactured by the media and some of it real, caused friction. I’ve said this before and I acknowledge it again that I have been guilty of making uncharitable remarks about her and I regret it. There were efforts at reconciliation and we were able to maintain civility but it never turned into friendship.”
