Shabana Azmi on boycotting IFFI over ‘Padmavati’ row


Shabana Azmi has spoken out about how the film industry should boycott the International Film Festival of India over the row relating to Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmavati’.

According to Deccan Chronicle, Azmi has branded the situation “cultural annihilation” and criticised the Information and Broadcasting Minister, Smriti Irani for her keeping tight-lipped about the issue.

She tweeted, “This is exactly like HKL Bhagat and Congress celebrating IFFI in Delhi after the murder of Safdar Hashmi in 1989. Cultural Annihilation.”

She added, “The entire film industry should boycott IFFI in protest against the threats to @deepikapadukone SLB and #Padmavati”

‘Padmavati’ releases on 1st December 2017.
