Shaan talks to BizAsia about UK tour: “Cultured Enthusiasm is a phrase I would coin for UK audience”

Rock On Music and TLC Events bring back popular Bollywood singer, Shaan in the UK in April 2020. Ahead of his tour, exclusive digital partner, BizAsiaLive.com caught up with the singer about the upcoming two-date UK tour.

You’re returning to the UK for two dates in April, how are you feeling?
I can’t wait. I have always got a lot of love for my music and performances in the UK.. so it fills me with a lot of joy and anticipation to come back to perform there.

There’s something about you and your music Shaan, that appeals to not just youngsters but family crowds – how do you maintain this balance with your song choices?
I’ve been fortunate to get to sing a good mix of songs, from soft romantic to party anthems. Also I love singing the classics, which are enjoyed by the older sections of my audience. There’s something for everyone and no cringe worthy songs on my song list :))

What’s the best thing about performing on stage?
Performing ‘Live’ in front of a receptive audience is such a rush. And I’m lucky to have a one of the most versatile set of musicians who can adapt to any style and genre. It gives me a lot freedom to go impromptu and take requests of songs I’ve I never sung before.

What do you enjoy most about performing in the UK?
The UK audience loves their music. While they will wave and dance to the faster tracks, they listen and appreciate the more soulful songs too. Cultured Enthusiasm is a phrase I would coin for the UK audience.

What treats are you bringing this time around to serenade your UK audiences with?
I have designed a very special show called “Love in Concert”, which is a celebration of love through music and dance. Along with my own songs, I’ve included some new and evergreen love songs that take us through a journey of the various expressions of love, also family ties, friendship, patriotism, and other relationships that are bound by ‘Love’! I have travelled with this concert concept across 14 cities in the US this year, among other cities too and I’ve received very positive response, so now I cannot wait to bring ‘Shaan – Love in Concert’ to the UK this April!

I love singing the more upbeat tracks and create that frenzy where everyone is dancing and singing along and swaying to the beat.

Is there one song in particular that gives you the most satisfaction when you’re singing on stage?
Tanha Dil, Chand Sifarish, Jabse Tere Naina, Chaar Kadam, honestly every song I sing and when I feel connected with my audience. It’s a very satisfying feeling.

As a performer, do you prefer singing upbeat or mellow songs?
I love singing the more upbeat tracks and create that frenzy where everyone is dancing and singing along and swaying to the beat. But I only enjoy doing that once I’ve managed to enthrall them with some soulful melody at the first half of my set. It’s a journey and as long as we are all together in it.

The 70s for me is the best era of music, where evolved song writing, experiments with music production, and the coming together of the best talents was at its peak.

Is there a particular Bollywood song out recently that you have not sung but wished you did?
I would’ve loved to have sung the ‘Kalank’ title track. I also loved the ‘Tum Hi Aana’ song from ‘Marjaavaan’.

With the way music has evolved over the years, which era of music stands out for you and touches your heart?
The 70s for me is the best era of music, where evolved song writing, experiments with music production, and the coming together of the best talents was at its peak.

You’re coming back to the UK for Rock On Music and TLC Events – two prominent Bollywood promoters in UK, what would you say about them?
It’s my first tour with Rock On Music and TLC Events but I can already sense the professionalism and purpose in the planning. Also O have got great reviews from my fraternity about these prominent promoters.
