Shaadi.com removes skin tone filter after online petition

Matrimonial website, Shaadi.com has succumbed to pressure by removing a controversial skin tone filter.

An online petition set-up by Hetal Lakhani from USA, questioned the need for the filter amid the ongoing Black Lives Matter movement.

The filter prompted when new users joined the site asking them to choose between light and dark complexion options.

Shaadi.com told the BBC that the filter “was not serving any purpose” and was a “product debris we missed removing”.
