As previously reported by BizAsia, director Shaad Ali is all set to remake Tamil film, ‘O Kadhal Kanmani’ (2015) in Hindi. However, while the filmmaker has exclusively directed films for Aditya Chopra’s Yash Raj Films thus far, he will now allegedly be working for Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions.
The original ‘O Kadhal Kanmani’ was directed by Mani Ratnam. It can be noted that Ali’s debut directorial, ‘Saathiya (2002) was also a remake of a Mani Ratnam film. Shaad Ali’s association with Ratnam also extends to him having been assistant director on a number of the senior director’s films, such as as ‘Dil Se’ (1998) and ‘Guru’ (2007).
‘Saathiya’ along with Ali’s following directions: ‘Bunty Aur Babli’ (2005), ‘Jhoom Barabar Jhoom’ (2007) and ‘Kill Dil’ (2014), were all produced by Yash Raj Films. While the former two did brilliant at the Box Office, the latter two unfortunately failed to do so.
Pairings such as Varun Dhawan-Alia Bhatt or Aditya Roy Kapor-Sonakshi Sinha have been reportedly considered for Ali’s latest remake, however, an official announcement is expected soon.
