Shaad Ali on why Diljit Dosanjh was best choice for Sandeep Singh

The life and times of India’s hockey captain Sandeep Singh is being brought on the screen by director Shaad Ali. He’s recently revealed why Diljit Dosanjh was the best person to step into the role.

“Diljit was the obvious choice to play Sandeep on screen. The character needed to sound Punjabi to make it authentic. We wanted an honest actor and luckily I could get Diljit to do it,” said Ali, according to Pune Mirror.

Ali also talked about how excited Dosanjh himself was about being a part of the biopic, “He just heard a 15-20-minute narration and was in with full faith and confidence. He didn’t even ask me for the entire script till we started shooting, even though it was ready”.

Talking further about working close with Singh himself for the film, he concludes, “I’ve been interacting with Sandeep for more than a year and a half. People don’t know his journey but the actor playing him is wellknown. It’s an interesting collaboration. Moreover, hockey is a great game to play but not watched a lot in India so people don’t know a lot about these players and their stories. I need to tell the world, or at least India, who think they know their sportsmen and hockey”.

The film also stars Taapee Pannu and Angad Bedi.
