SET Max to encrypt in October

Sony Entertainment Television Asia’s new films and concerts channel SET Max will be encrypting on Sky Digital in October.

According to bosses at the channel, the two-month freeview has give viewers enough time to see what the channel can offer.

SET Max (Sky EPG 826) has proved immensely popular in India due to the broadcaster’s line-up of cricket and top movies. However, a spokersperson has confirmed to Biz Asia that legal issues will refrain the channel to show cricket tournaments in the UK. Instead the channel will compete directly with ZEE Cinema and B4U Movies by screening blockbuster movies and live concerts round the clock.

SET Max will encrypt on Monday 17th October 2005, and will be available as a stand-alone channel with the following prices:

Special Launch offer- ?7.99 p/month + free connection if the person is already subscribed to any other asian channel.

After this period it will be ?9.99 p/month

It has also been confirmed that though SET Max India has secured the rights to show the forthcoming Johnnie Walker ICC Super Series, SET Max UK will not be telecasting this due to rights. Sky Sports hold the rights to the series in the UK. SET Max is unlikely to show any cricket matches on its UK channel, instead using it for films and concerts alone.
