Scooped: Asian Network: The ‘Sholay’ mix-up!

The response to our first ‘Scooped’ snippet was tremendous. Another one we’ve received from a listener who happened to tune in to ‘Fim Cafe’ on the BBC Asian Network on Saturday 16th September.

It seems that the self-proclaimed Bollywood experts Raj & Pablo were interviewing upcoming actor Mohit Ahlawat about his forthcoming film, ‘Sholay’ (the re-make by Ram Gopal Varma), among other things. When Ahlawat said that he’d be playing the character of Jai, one of the presenters (Raj) said, “That was the character played by Dharmendra!” We don’t know whether Ahlawat didn’t hear that or was reeling with shock because he replied after a pause, “I can’t hear you”. Seizing the opportunity by the horns, the other presenter [Pablo] quickly intervened and covered up the glaring faux pas by moving on to the next question.

Even a child knows that Jai was played by Amitabh Bachchan in the original! Anyway, we’re not complaining! We love scooping these howlers!
