India – born Satya Nadella, 46 has been named as the new CEO of Microsoft replacing Steve Ballmer, becoming only the third ever CEO of Microsoft.

Nadella was previously Microsoft’s head of Cloud and Enterprise, which builds and runs the firm’s computing platforms and developer tools.

���Satya is a proven leader with hard-core engineering skills, business vision and the ability to bring people together,�۝ co-founder Bill Gates said in a statement announcing the appointment.

���His vision for how technology will be used and experienced around the world is exactly what Microsoft needs as the company enters its next chapter of expanded product innovation and growth,�۝ he added.

���I�۪ve asked Bill to devote additional time to the company, focused on technology and products,�۝ Nadella said in an email to Microsoft employees.

As already reported, Gates will also be stepping down as Chairman of Microsoft and turning Technology Advisor.

Nadella, who has been with the company for many years, has been called a ���safe choice�۝ by the industry.
