Satvinder Rana bows out as BBC Radio Derby axes ‘Aaj Kal’ show after 41 years
Legendary BBC presenter, Satvinder Rana has presented his final Asian show ‘Aaj Kal’ on BBC Radio Derby, after 41 years on-air.
‘Aaj Kal’ was the station’s flagship show for the Asian community in Derby. It broadcast entertainment and information, with special guests from community leaders, celebrities to politicians.
The final ‘Aaj Kal’ show was hosted on Sunday 8th October. Co-presenter, Poli Tank, who was unable to be present for the milestone episode, was also with the station for over 37 years.
In an emotional post on his social media, Rana said, “What an epic end to the programme last night!
The memory, the vibe and the feeling will remain with me forever. Mega massive and huge thanks to everyone who was there in person, listening in, on the line, virtually and in spirit….THANK YOU!
BBC Radio Derby and the Aaj Kal show has given us so much over the years….not only were we able to connect with our wonderful Desi communities every week, but we got a chance to meet and converse with some great people from the young kid at a Diwali, Vaisakhi or Eid festival to Shah Rukh Khan (and of course not forgetting the opportunity to shake hands with Neeru Bajwa!!!!) it’s been a privilege.
Most of all, the programme fostered some brilliant friendships that will last the lifetime and we look forward to continuing the work as we move into the new era! #BBCRadioDerby #AajkalShow”
