Sareet Binning becomes first Sikh player for Wolves Women
Sareet Binning has made history by becoming the first Sikh player to represent Wolves Women Football Club. At just 16 years and five days old, she is also among the youngest players to feature for the team.
Binning, who has already captained England at the under-16 level, led the national side against France at the prestigious Montaigu Tournament in April. The achievement has drawn pride and recognition across communities in both the UK and India.
Of Indian origin and Sikh heritage, her signing is being described as a breakthrough for representation in football, particularly in the women’s game, where South Asian players remain underrepresented. Although South Asians make up nearly 15 percent of grassroots participation in the UK, they account for less than 1 percent of players in the Women’s Super League. Binning’s rise is seen as a step toward addressing that gap.
Her debut marks a milestone both for Wolves Women and for the wider football community, highlighting the increasing diversity within the sport.
