Sanya Malhotra to play Shakuntala Devi’s daughter in biopic

Sanya Malhotra has been announced to essay Shakuntala Devi’s daughter, Anupama Banerji in the Vidya Balan starrer ‘Shakuntala Devi: The Human Computer’.

Reported on India Today, Malhotra who is super excited to be working with Balan for the first time, said: “I am very excited to play the iconic Shakuntala Devi’s daughter – Anupama Banerji. Everyone knows the achievements of the Math genius Shakuntala Devi. I’m thrilled to bring onscreen this dynamic mother-daughter relationship and equally thrilled to work with Vidya Balan.”

Anu Menon who is directing the film, said she instantly knew Malhotra would be best person to take on the role, “When I met my namesake Anupama Banerji, Shakuntala’s daughter, I went to find the story of a Math whiz – but through spending time with Anupama, I found the story of a woman who was not just a computer but human too. And I can’t think of a better person than Sanya who can capture the love of daughter for her indefinable mother. Sanya instinctively understood the character and her journey – and I can’t wait to start shooting with her. I think the audience will fall in love with both Sanya’s and Vidya’s characters.”

The first-look poster for ‘Shakuntala Devi: The Human Computer’ was released today, as the team start shooting for the film. Balan and the team are currently in London, while Malhotra is preparing for her part in Mumbai and will join the cast later this month.

‘Shakuntala Devi: The Human Computer’ is slated to release in the summer of 2020.
