Filmmaker Subhash Ghai directed film ‘Khalnayak’ which was a blockbuster in 1993, is again getting acknowledged by producers, as they want a remake of it. Many producers were in line but ‘Bajirao Mastani’ director Sanjay Leela Bhansali ha almost won the race of buying rights of the film.

“There was a talk for sure when he (Sanjay Leela Bhansali) had come for lunch at my home and he wanted the rights of ‘Khalnayak'” Ghai told IANS.

“I have asked for around Rs 8 to 9 crore. I think he is too tied up with his current film production (‘Bajirao Mastani’),” he added.

Earlier, there were rumours that filmmaker Karan Johar also had a desire of making a remake of the film, but Ghai denied these rumors. However, Ghai sold the remake rights of his another big blockbuster film ‘Ram Lakhan’ (1989) to Karan Johar. Rohit Shetty will direct the remake.

The filmmaker admitted that his movie is again a hottest product in market today. “Suddenly this (‘Khalnayak’) has become the hottest product being talked about in market today. And we are getting offers from few more producers,” Ghai concluded.
