Sanjay Gupta’s portrayal of Mumbai in ‘Shootout at Wadala’

Sanjay Gupta has made some of Bollywood’s most appreciated gangster films in recent years including ‘Kaante’ (2002). His next offering is ‘Shootout at Wadala’ which encompasses a huge star-cast comprising of Anil Kapoor, John Abraham and Tusshar Kapoor to name a few. The director has said he found the portrayal of Mumbai the hardest to bring to the screen.

As reported by the Hindustan Times, Gupta said, “It is the most challenging film which I have shot till date. It covers 1978-81. Everything has changed, including Mumbai and getting that right was a difficult task”. The story of the film surrounds Mumbai police’s first registered shootout where they killed gangster Manya Surve in 1982.

Gupta produced ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’ (2007) and this, the forthcoming project, will be the second in the franchise. “Shootout At Wadala is also a franchise. It is difficult to say exactly what it will be, but there will be another shootout soon. But we will only make one when we are convinced of the strong story,” Gupta added.
