Sanjay Dutt, who was due to go back into jail tomorrow after a month-long parole period, has been given a 30 day extension due to his wife Maanyata’s ill-health, BizAsia has learnt.

The Maharasthtra government is thought to have given the extension for the same reason that the parole was given. Dutt is serving the remainder of his sentence for the illegal possession of arms linked to the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts.

Maanyata is suffering from a tumour in her liver and a heart ailment. Dutt was previously given a month-long parole period which saw his return to to jail once again on 30th October. When he had applied again for parole this time, there were protests triggered outside Pune’s Yerawada jail which caused a government enquiry to be conducted.
