Sanjay Dutt to raise awareness of drug abuse

With his own previous problems with drug abuse, Sanjay Dutt now wants to turn his bad experiences in something good. Reports suggest that the actor is planning on teaching the youth of the country the negative effects of drug abuse and how to stay away from them.

“I want them to be high on life, to study and work hard instead of doing drugs. I’ve spoken about this earlier… It’s something I’ve always wanted to do. Things did not materialise then because my own case was on and my plate was full. But now that the pressure is off, I really want to do something for the future of our country,” Pune Mirror reports the actor expressing.

Dutt went onto say, “I’ll go to the highest level, present my proposal to the Prime Minister, and work with the government on this because you need proper facilities and proper counselling. It’s a three-pronged process — create awareness, instill in the addicts a willingness to clean up and then rehabilitate them.”

Talking about his experiences, the actor expressed how it’s not just about someone introducing you to drugs, “you can be introduced to drugs by somebody, but then you stay on because it’s cool and you want to be on the scene and one out of every 10 crosses the line of control. I was one of those unlucky ones.”

Dutt also opened up what his inmates had gone through during his time in jail. “I’d see them go through the pain of withdrawal with no one around to help them. It was a sad situation,” Dutt expressed.

Talking about how he plans to raise awareness about the issue, Dutt went on to say, “I was among the lucky few who could be sent out of the country to a rehab centre in the US but how many families can afford that? So, we should have facilities for them here and I’d like to go out there and talk to these girls and boys, rich and poor. Maybe I can be an inspiration, because if I could get out of it, anybody can.”

In saying all of this, it seems Dutt’s actions are now in the name of the two people who he loves the most, “Everything I do is a tribute to my mom (Nargis) and dad (Sunil Dutt) and I do it with their blessings.”
