Sanjay Dutt gets court summons for ‘Jaadu ki Jhappi’ comment

Sanjay Dutt and his ‘Jaadu ki Jhappi’ line from his 2003 hit ‘Munnabhai MBBS’ defined the film, and Dutt became synonymous with the phrase. Now, it is the same phrase  that has gotten the actor in legal trouble. An Uttar Pradesh court has issued a court summons against the actor for using the line against BSP chief Mayawati while campaigning for the 2009 Lok Sabha elections.

News18 has reported that Dutt has been summoned to appear in court on 16th November. His speech during the campaigning was recorded, where his ‘Jaadu Ki Jhappi’ comment was found to be offensive, and the summons was filed under Section 509 & 294 of the Indian Penal Code. Section 509 deals with the “word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman” and Section 294 deals with using “obscene acts or words in public.”
