After a damning start to Salman Khan’s 2002 hit-and-run case, today seemed to bring some sort of relief for the actor after a witness said that Khan did not appear drunk on the night of the incident.

The witness, Francis Fernandes, a neighbour of Khan told the court that he had gone to the spot after hearing shouts of people and saw the actor surrounded by a mob armed with sticks and stones.

He added, Salman did not appear to be drunk as there was no smell of alcohol when I went near him. He looked normal and walked straight.”

This is contrary to what the prosecution claims saying that the actor was drunk when the mishap took place. According to police, Salman had allegedly consumed a couple of drinks with friends at a bar in J W Marriot hotel at Juhu before he met with an accident on 28th September 2002, outside American Bakery.

The trial continues.
