‘Sairat’ director to make Bollywood debut with Amitabh Bachchan

The director of the blockbuster Marathi film ‘Sairat,’ (2016) Nagraj Manjule is planning to foray into Bollywood with none other than Amitabh Bachchan by his side.

While his ‘Sairat’ turned out to be a record-breaking success, the director has now decided to make his next movie, a social drama featuring Bachchan, for Hindi cinema, reports Bollywood Hungama. Bachchan will apparently play the role of a patriarch with grey shades. As of now, other details of the cast and script are still being kept secret.

Manjule is huge fan of the superstar. Bachchan has been an inspiration for the filmmaker since his childhood as he decided to become a director after he had enacted a few scenes of the star from his cult film, ‘Sholay’ (1975).

The respect is mutual as Bachchan has often been seen showering praises for Manjule’s direction and he has been called ‘genius director’ by the veteran superstar on social media. Bachchan also sent a letter to Manjule congratulating him for the success of ‘Sairat.’

As for the new script, rumours read that that Manjule, who has been working on it ever since he finished ‘Sairat,’ was initially planning to write it as a Marathi script, but then decided to take it forward in Hindi. He further worked on it for a year and a half before taking it to Bachchan in January.

The film is scheduled to go into production by the end of this year. Stick with BizAsiaLive.com for more updates.
