Saif Ali Khan on Yash Chopra: “He saved my career”

On the day of his birth anniversary, Saif Ali Khan shared fond memories of his time with Yash Chopra.

Chopra’s movies defined romance in Bollywood and his movies led to the breakthrough of many actors including Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Juhi Chawla and Anushka Sharma to name a few, reports Pink Villa.

Saif started his journey with a Chopra movie when he starred in the filmmaker’s directorial ‘Parampara’ (1993) alongside Aamir Khan. Though the drama was not a hit, Saif and Chopra would go on to collaborate in movies like ‘Yeh Dillagi’ (1994), ‘Hum Tum’ (2004), ‘Salaam Namaste’ (2005), ‘Ta Ra Rum Pum’ (2007), ‘Tashan’ (2008) and ‘Roadside Romeo’ (2008).

The star said on his relationship with the director, “I loved Yash Ji! I must have been close to him than any other filmmaker. He saved my career by giving me a chance in his multistarrer and standing by me. We would have very funny chats. He was so young at heart and it was always heart-warming to see him every time. His filmmaking style was unique and relaxed and absolutely everyone on set adored him.”

Saif continued, “We would all shoot like a family and sing songs in the bus in Switzerland. He would just stop the bus sometimes and say, ‘Ok, let’s do this scene here!’ Or later say, ‘Ok Saif, let’s do your song cut here.’ This way a lot of work would get done. He was the last of the movie Moguls! With his departure, an era ended.”
