Chadha wants to approach Saif Ali Khan to play Nehru

Her debut film,’Bend It Like Beckham’ (2002) and her follow up directorial, ‘Bride and Prejudice’ (2004), were received very well by audiences. However, now Gurinder Chadha is gearing up to prepare for her most challenging film yet and she has high hopes for Saif Ali Khan to play a the role of Jawaharlal Nehru as a cameo.

The movie will be based around the time of India’s partition, and India Todayreports that Naseeruddin Shah has agreed to be a part of the project. “This is my biggest challenge to date. I’ve been working on my partition film for some time now. The central character is Lord Mountbatten,” the director informed.

Talking about her preparation for the film, Chadha went onto say, ” It is a huge canvas requiring tonnes and tonnes of research and sources of characters. I’ve spoken to some people including Naseer and Saif. Nehru’s role is a cameo, so I wonder if Saif would be willing to do it?”

The film will be setin January 1974 until August 1974, during the time LordMountbatten, the last viceroy of British India, was required to overlook India. It was also reportedthat apparently the role of Mountbatten will be played by either Colin Firth or Michael Fassbender.
