Sahara shows interest to buy Nimbus channels

Days after the owners of Times Of India, Bennett, Coleman & Co Ltd, expressed interest in acquiring a stake in Nimbus Communication’s sports channels Neo Cricket and Neo Sports, Sahara India too has done the same.

Sahara, which has interests in financial services, real estate, media and hospitality, has made large investments in the country’s cricketing and sports sweepstakes.

Neo Cricket and Neo Sports are controlled by Neo Sports Broadcast Ltd, an arm of Nimbus. Apart from the main shareholder, Nimbus, Neo has some other private investors and financial institutions.

If the deal does go through and Nimbus Communications retains the rights to India cricket, then it will give Sahara a huge push amongst sport broadcasters. The dispute is in courts.
