Sahara set to buy 51% stake in Music India

Sahara One Media and Entertainment is set to buy a majority stake in Media Worldwide, the company which runs Music India, Sangeet Bangla and Sangeet Bhojpuri.

If successful, Sahara’s bouquet of channels will finally delve into the music genre, which it has been planning for some time. Currently only Sahara One, Filmy, Firangi and a clutter of news channels formulate the Sahara One Media and Entertainment brand in India.

Roy had earlier told Indiantelevision.com in an interview that Sahara would be launching a music channel and would be expanding in the regional language markets with the launch of a Bhojpuri, Bengali, Gujarati and Marathi channel.

It is not yet known how the dynamics would change in the UK as Sahara currently is a part of the MAX Mix bouquet of channels. If the deal does go through, can we expect to see Music India a part of the MAX Mix bundle? After all, it currently is without a music based channel.
