Sahara One to launch mega Saas Bahu show

Sahara One, the No. 7 general entertainment channel from the Sahara stable, has taken the ‘saas-bahu’ war to the reality platform with its new reality based dance show Saas Vs Bahu. The new show goes on air from 25th August (India), and will be aired Monday-Friday in the prime time band of 20:00.

Aruna Irani and Longinus Fernandes have been roped in as the judges for the show. Two teams each of 15 popular TV’s mother-in-law and 15 popular TV’s daughter-in-law will compete with each other for the scheduled 55 episodes spread over 11 weeks.

Nilanjana Purkayespha, business head, Sahara One, said, “The key to any reality show is the concept, the premise that gives the audience a reason to watch. While conceiving of a reality show we were pretty sure that it was not going to be just another of those song and dance shows, where TV stars get together and shake a leg. The premise of ‘saas-bahu’ conflict has become so deeply rooted in our audience’s psyche that it has become a genre of its own ‘saas-bahu’ drama.”

“We thought why not take this premise, this conflict to the next level and settle the debate once and for all. Saas Vs Bahu combines the best of fiction with the best of reality. While the dance floor is the Karamyudh, each team has at stake not only its reputation but is also fighting for honour of every Saas and Bahu who are rooting for them.” Purkayespha says.

Produced by Swastik Pictures, the show has roped in 100-plus celebrities with 500 performances across all the episodes. Being a dance reality show, each team is given a task of competing with the other teams, wherein five days a week, three pairs would be performing, while Thursdays would air the elimination rounds. The eliminations would be judged on the combined marks of the judges and the live audience.

Sahara One has tied up with Red FM as part of its radio activity, and under the digital space, they have a tie-up with Sify.com. As part of its outdoor activity, the channel has painted four local trains in Mumbai with the banners of Saas Vs Bahu and the same strategy has been applied in Kolkata and Delhi, targeting the trams and Metro, respectively.

It is not yet known when the show will broadcast in the UK.
