Sabras Radio revamps Saturday nights

The Midlands most listened to Asian radio station Sabras Radio will be unveiling its new “youthful” sound as it gets tough in the much talked about UK radio war.

Sabras Radio is currently undergoing many programming changes (details soon) starting off with its weekend slots. Beginning this Saturday (24th June), El-Vishio’s current ‘Set The Tone’ show will increase in duration by an hour. The programme will air between 18:00 and 21:00.

He will then be followed by Akshay, one of the station’s longest running presenters. Akshay will present a new programme called ‘Desi Mash-Up’, airing between 21:00 and 00:00. As an insider at the station explains, both these shows have been scheduled for the party-goer audience.

“Saturday nights are known for parties and going out with friends in town, so we have tailored our programmes to target that audience. The shows will be popular amongst the listeners who are getting ready for that manic night out and also for those who’d rather stay indoors and instead experience the club atmosphere from the comfort of their own home…This is phase one of our radical changes on Sabras Radio…watch this space!”

‘Set The Tone’ with El-Vishio will specialise in Urban, R’n’B and Underground music with fellow DJ Akshay playing the utmost latest from the Bhangra, remix and Bollywood music genres in his show ‘Desi Mash-Up’.

What’s even more, El-Vishio will spread his programme to Sundays too with another two-hour spectacular in the offing between 18:00 and 20:00.

Rival BBC Asian Network has only recently transformed its weekend schedule with a slew of young targeted programmes. London’s Sunrise Radio is also looking at jazzing up its shows later this year with ‘old’ presenters being moved to Kismat Radio.
