Sabras Radio marks 30-years of broadcasting with lavish event

Leicester’s leading Asian commercial radio station, Sabras Radio, has celebrated its 30th anniversary with a grand event at The Athena, in the heart of the city centre.

The celebration took place on the very date that Sabras Radio first went on air in 1995, marking three decades of broadcasting to the community. The evening featured an impressive line-up of performances, including Shin DCS, Mangal Singh, choreographer Jay Kumar, Jin & Seetal, and many other artists, supported by a live band from India. Music production was handled by AVH, with catering provided by Sanjay Foods. The event was compered by Sabras Radio presenters, who kept the audience entertained throughout the evening.

During the celebrations, Managing Director and founder Don Kotak paid tribute to past and present team members, commercial advertisers, and loyal listeners who have supported the station throughout its journey. Kotak emphasised the dedication and passion that have sustained the station and reaffirmed Sabras Radio’s ongoing commitment to serving its diverse audience.

A cake-cutting ceremony was held to mark the milestone, with current on-air team members joining Kotak for the occasion.

The evening also included a moving tribute to presenters who have passed away in recent years, including Faruk Razak, Vinod Suri, Rishi Modi, and Prem Khosla. Their contributions were warmly remembered, recognising the lasting legacy they leave behind.

The 30th anniversary celebrations reflected both Sabras Radio’s proud history and its vision for the future, as the station continues to inform, entertain, and connect the community it serves.
