SAB TV to join BARB system in April

Multi Screen Media’s light-entertainment channel, SAB TV will be joining BARB next month,BizAsia.co.ukcan reveal.

The channel will be the first from the network to have its audience measured officially by Broadcasters Audience Research Board (BARB).

What is interesting is that currently SAB TV is a premium channel being sold as part of the VIEWASIA bundle. So is the channel planning to go free-to-air permanently for BARB? Sources close toBizAsia.co.ukhave indicated that talks have been ongoing about one of the MSM Asia channels free-to-air as a window for the rest of the network. A spokesperson for the channel declined to comment on this story.

Currently, all BARB listed channels (except for Star Plus and Star Gold) are free-to-air services including Imagine Dil Se, UMP Movies, Zing and Sunrise TV.

It remains to be seen if SAB TV will be the first Asian TV subscription channel to be measured by BARB or if it goes free-to-air. If the channel does go free – how will VIEWASIA’s subscription be impacted? Keep it withBizAsia.co.ukfor the latest.

SAB TV will begin BARB reporting on Monday 16th April.
