RS Prasanna on ‘Shubh Mangal Saavdhan’ not being vulgar

As the promos for the film start grabbing audiences attention, director RS Prasanna has come out and explained that his film titled ‘Shubh Mangal Saavdhan’ that deals with the subject of erectile dysfunction, has been made in a very tasteful and light-hearted way.

“What’s the fun in talking about erectile dysfunction if I make it vulgar? It’s stupid because the more risky the idea, the more you have to make it digestible. It is extremely critical to the health of the film that it better be funny and sweet,” Mid-Day reports the film maker explaining.

The film which will star Bhumi Pednekar and Ayushmann Khurrana, was originally a South film helmed by Prasanna himself in 2013 and was titled ‘Kalyana Samayal Saadham’. “Even while writing the film we were aware that this is a universal theme, when the movie released we started getting feelers from a couple of people in Bollywood,” the director went on to state.

“I was even told that ‘Kalyana…’ is a Bollywood movie in the form of a Tamil film. It was very urban, softer in its rhythm. Back of the mind, we knew if the movie does well, there is a chance we can take it to Bollywood,” he went on.

Set to release on 1st September, the film apparently reflects the same essence as the 2013 Tamil film despite having a different backdrop and a brand new script.
