Royal family slams CBFC for clearing ‘Padmavati’

Despite the film being made to change much of its content including its name and many cuts, it seems there are still many who are still unhappy about Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmavati’. News has it that a Royal family in Udaipur have slammed the Central Board of Film Certification for clearing the film without their consultation.

“It is very clear that the movie is about my family. Cosmetic changes like the proposed change in name will not change the fact that the movie refers to real places, my ancestors and other persons in history with their names continuing to remain the same,” Times of India reports Vishvaraj Singh, member of the Mewar Royal family stating.

He went onto states “(the CBFC has)reduced itself to endorsing the propagation of fiction about heroic personalities and living families.”

“You’re stating one thing and doing another renders the CBFC to be just as ignoble as those distorting and seeking to profit from the history of this country and my family,” he went on.

Starring Shahid Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, ‘Padmavati’ had an original release date of 1st December, however, due to the uproar that the film has caused due to the fictional depiction of India’s history, the film has had to go through many hurdles. And it seems it will be a while before the film’s troubles can see the light of day.
